Wild Fires in Rancho Bernardo
In 2007 California suffered one of its most disastrous wild fires. Two of the biggest fires occurred in San Diego County, with the largest known as the Witch Creek fire (named after the Witch Creek Canyon near Santa Ysabel). The community of Rancho Bernardo was one of the worst effected.
During the fire, evacuations were widespread with many homeowners receiving phone calls through a reverse 911 system. Unfortunately, for many in Ranch Bernardo the call came after they had already been forced to leave their homes.
Overall the Witch Creek fire destroyed over a thousand homes and many outbuildings, and vehicles. Rancho Bernardo lost hundreds of beautiful homes with the worst effected neighborhoods being the Trails, Montelena, and Westwood.
Poolside Portable Pumps
I created Poolside Portable Pumps because I was so concerned about the massive amount of damage the the 2003 and 2007 fires had caused in the Ranch Bernardo and other neighborhoods.
I worked as a successful contractor and have been involved in many of the home rebuilds and so I was well aware of the family strain of struggles with insurance companies, the loss of precious, irreplaceable memories in a fire and having to live in rented accommodation during a rebuild.
As I surveyed the damage, it struck me that many of the houses lost had a swimming pool or one of their neighbors did. If only the owners of these homes had had a powerful pump that took water from their pools they would have been able to hose down their properties and yards, with either water or water and barricade gel, prior to evecuating. If this was done before the encroachment of a brush fire, perhaps their homes would have been saved. I also envisaged that many homes could be saved by Firemen coming across these powerful fire pumps staged and ready when they saw them by the pool side.
This realization was my inspiration to design and build the high pressure and volume portable pumps that I am marketing to the community. Of course, owning a pump will not guarantee to save your property,
but sensible fire preparedness, to water down and foam your structure with fire retardent prior to evacuation, will help in fire prevention.
All our pumps come
with a yard sign showing you have a high pressure and volume pump poolside so firefighters know
they can activate them. In many of these fires water pressure at the fire hydrants can be used up,
this means NO WATER and so even though the fire department has fire fighting equipment, they would need another source of water.
For a small investment you can be prepared to face the massive
destruction of wild fires. And always listen and let the professionals do their job to insure maximum
usage potential.
Phone me at 858 513 2677 or email sales@poolsideportablepumps.com for a free, no obligation consultation. I am always happy to explain to my customers how to operate and maintain the pumps and I can even schedule house calls to take care of regular maintenance and equipment checks.
